Sue Wiseman, Founder of PA CleanWaysIntroduction

The Sue Wiseman Scholarship recognizes the individual accomplishments of young people who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and dedication to the environment and who have initiated and carried out a project(s) that addresses littering, illegal dumping, recycling, proper disposal, beautification, or education. An education project must address one of the other topics listed.

A committee comprised of educators and environmental professionals will select the winner. One scholarship will be awarded per year. The winner will receive a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,000, to be made
out to the college/university, trade or business school of the winner's choice. If a school has not been chosen, the scholarship will be held in escrow until the winner's acceptance to a college/university, trade or business school.

The winner will be announced in September. PA CleanWays reserves
the right to withhold or withdraw the scholarship in the full amount if
the winner does not attend college within one year after graduation.

The scholarship is named for Sue Wiseman (above, right), whose commitment and dedication to a cleaner environment led to the founding of PA CleanWays. PA CleanWays is a statewide non-profit environmental organization empowering people to eliminate littering and illegal dumping in Pennsylvania. Its community-based approach has resulted in:
  • the removal of hundreds of illegal dump sites throughout the state,
  • the involvement of tens of thousands of volunteers,
  • the collection of thousands of tires and appliances for recycling,
  • the planting of thousands of trees in public areas across the state, and
  • the adoption of hundreds of local roads for litter cleanups.
