Celebrating
a Successful First Year
The
Mifflin County Chapter recently celebrated a milestone in its development,
having marked
its first anniversary. It’s been a busy year for the fledgling group
that set about cleaning up Mifflin County in April 2001.
Members,
volunteers and sponsors alike can take pride in their accomplishments,
which include:
- Five
cleanup projects tackled throughout the year, some spanning two days
and one encompassing four sites.
- An
executive director was hired in November to support the chapter’s
activities.
- Members
presented programs to local civic organizations and sponsored information
booths at community activities, such as Country Memories Day.
- Local
officials took a closer look at the problem of illegal dumping and
littering in the community when they toured area sites with PA CleanWays
representatives, and The Sentinel and County Observer introduced
their readers to the problem with front page features that stirred
up a heated "Open Line" debate over who should be cleaning up the
problem.
Still,
there is much to do and many challenges lie ahead. PA CleanWays of Mifflin
County hopes you will come be a part of the fun. Join us for upcoming
activities, including:
- Local
Road Adoption Campaign
- Volunteer
Appreciation Picnic in July
- More
Great Cleanup Projects, including Hawstone Road in the fall
- And,
so much more...
