Mifflin Chapter Hosts Roundtable on Illegal Dumping
On April 22, 2003,
the Mifflin Chapter hosted a Law Enforcement Roundtable on Illegal Dumping
in downtown Lewistown for enforcement agencies which cover the Mifflin
County area.
Attendees included
agents from the State Police, the Game Commission, the Fish and Boat
Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Granville
Police Department, Mifflin County Probation/Parole Office, Mifflin County
Conservation District, District Justice Williams and others.
The purpose of the
Roundtable was to introduce officers to the problems of illegal dumping
in Mifflin County and to discuss ideas for investigating sites, prosecuting
dumpers, and monitoring sites after clean up. Ideas for education programs
with the local school districts were also discussed.
Funding for the
Roundtable was provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's
Section 319 program through grant projects awarded to the Pennsylvania
Association of Conservation Districts, Inc.
