Chapter
Starting Dump Site Survey
PA CleanWays of
Mifflin County will be assisting the Juniata Clean Water Partnership
(JCWP) and seven other PA CleanWays chapters and Conservation Districts
with a dump site survey in the Juniata Watershed.
The survey will
include mapping and characterizing the contents of dump sites located
near public roadways and streams. One page reports will be filled out
for each site, including the location, what type of trash can be visually
identified, and whether the site includes any significant land feature
such as a stream or very steep slopes.
Mifflin County has
an existing map of 88 dump sites compiled by Chapter Vice President
Don Baker. Those sites will be revisited to pinpoint them with GPS to
be included in a new GIS layer. New sites that are located will also
be characterized and included in the report.
Participating CleanWays
chapters will receive a portion of the JCWP grant that is funding the
survey. The final report will also benefit chapters as a supporting
document when applying for grant funding for projects.
