CleanWays of Lawrence County Busy On "Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful
Day"
2003
Saturday,
April 26, 2003, had Pennsylvanians out and busy cleaning up neighborhoods
and roadways across the state for "Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful
Day". The Lawrence County Chapter was out there too, cleaning an
old abandoned dump site at the corner of Plank and Shenango Roads in
Neshannock Township. A crew of our volunteers also worked along a heavily
littered stretch of Plank Road noted for the high concentration of fast
food, can, and bottle trash.
A total of 15 members and volunteers showed up for the four hour cleanup.
Their hard work and persistent efforts resulted in the removal of one
and one half tons of trash, a half ton of scrap metal, and twenty one
tires. After the cleanup a luncheon was hosted for the workers by local
residents James and Betty Koonse. Mrs. Koonse is especially thanked
for the homemade brownies and cold drinks she and her great-granddaughter
hand-delivered to the workers along the area for a midmorning break!
Several of the local residents noted the wonderful results of the cleanup.
A small stretch of littered roadway was again a beautiful scene thanks
to the volunteers who worked to clean up the litter along Plank Road.
PA CleanWays of Lawrence County would like to thank the volunteers who
worked this event and the sponsors who helped to make it happen: Lawrence
County Recycling/Solid Waste Department and Pennsylvania DOT.
