Annual
Cleanup In Wayne Township Really Makes A Difference
Back
in 1997 the Lawrence County Chapter of PA CleanWays went to Wayne Township
for the first of what is now the Annual Jockey Moore Road Cleanup. The
illegal dumping was so bad that after a four hour cleanup only a half
mile of the roadside was able to be cleaned. Since then, year after
year, the amount of dumping has decreased.
This year 19 chapter members and local volunteers worked along Jockey
Moore Road and Line Avenue on Saturday, May 3, 2003. They filled up
a Wayne Township truck with just over one ton of trash and litter.
"Compared to what it was in the beginning, this year was a picnic,"
stated Everett Bleakney, Wayne Township Supervisor. "PA CleanWays
has done a world of good for this township." Mr. Bleakney, working
along with the chapter members and volunteers, has been a driving force
in cleaning up illegal dumping in Wayne Township.
PA CleanWays thanks the members, volunteers and Wayne Township Supervisors
for their efforts in this cleanup. "Without volunteers, PA CleanWays
would not be able to function," states Marjorie Snider, chapter
executive director. "They are our back bone."
