Dear Mother Earth:
You don't know me, but I am one of your residents. I want
to talk to you about the litter issue we seem to be having.
I have only been an inhabitant of yours
for 11 years, but I am one of your biggest fans. I can't begin
to tell you how much I think of your amazing mountains majesty
and your beautiful oceans blue.
I think that it is funny, in a sad sort of way, that humans
are considered the
most intelligent beings on Earth, yet the animals you are
home to treat you with more respect and care than we do. You
have been patient and kind to us, and we have horribly abused
you in return. You have provided food, shelter, and the means
to survive for centuries and instead of treasuring you we
have all but
used you up. We've littered in the parks, woods, and other
areas you have given
us until they are unusable for what they were originally intended.
Now we use them as our trash dumps. Instead of appreciating
the gifts you supplied, we hungered for more until only the
fortunate few have enough. For this I am
forced to beg your forgiveness and apologize for my fellow
humans and myself.
I can promise you that I will do my best to make things
better. I vow to teach
my children to not litter and take care of the Wonderful Earth
we have so that they, in turn, will also strive to improve
the mess we have made of things. In
doing so, I hope that we all start taking better care of the
gorgeous Earth you have given us. With your continued care
and hopefully my generation's aware-
ness of the problems, we will used the greatly reduced resources
left to us and will once again become the great and fantastically
beautiful world God created for us to begin with.
