WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
How is your water cleaned? Try this experiment and see your results!

Materials:

• Glass Jar
• Coffee Filter Paper
• Fine Sand
• Soil
• Water

Instructions:

1. Put the coffee filter into the funnel and set your funnel into the mouth
   of the jar.
2. Pour 1-2 inches of fine sand into the filter.
3. Mix a handful of soil with some water and pour the dirty water into
   the funnel.

What is happening? See how well
the sand filters out the soil. Does the
water come out clean as it drips into
the jar?

As the water drains through the sand,
the dirt is caught, allowing the water
to pass through. This gives us the clean
water.
