Project #1
Did the dryer take one of your
socks last time the laundry was done? Or is your big toe sticking out of your sock? Don't throw those socks away! Old or mismatched socks make great hand puppets. Just use old buttons for the eyes and nose and draw a mouth on with a marker. You can glue yarn on for hair and there you have it, a puppet!

Project #2
Does your family throw out the cardboard egg cartons in the trash? Save them next time and use them to start flower seeds for spring. You get to reuse the cartons and learn about how things grow! After your plants are ready to move outside, don't throw the cartons away. If they are made of cardboard, they will biodegrade, so put them in with your other compost.

Project #3
You know those yogurt cups your parents pack in your lunch? After you eat your yogurt, you can use the cups to hold your paint or glue for art projects, or use them as plant containers to start plants. They also make great containers to pack stuff for your lunch. Remember, recycling is better than rubbish!

Project #4
Make the birds in your backyard happy! Those two-liter plastic soda bottles make great bird feeders and are very easy to make. Check the Enviro-Crafts section of our Kids' Website for directions on how to make them.

Project #5
Next spring create your own mini-greenhouses to grow seeds and baby plants by cutting the bottoms from two-liter plastic bottles and filling them with potting soil. They can be reused year after year. This would make a good science project.

Project #6
Don't throw out those CDs that you get in the mail! You can paint designs on them and use them for coasters for drinks, or string them together and make a mobile. You can also hang unpainted ones in the garden you planted to keep the animals from eating your plants as they grow.
