Rubye
created Berry the Flamingo out of recycled materials.
Berry was displayed at Rubye's church along with recycling
baskets to collect plastic and paper. During the months
of March and April, Rubye took the items collected to
the local recycling center. |

Approximately
160 students worked as a team in a community anti-littering
program, developing an educational billboard with the slogan,
"The Solution for Pollution is
Put it in the Can
Man". Each student drew a picture according to the
theme. The pictures were then arranged into a depiction
of the world, suggesting that the idea of pollution is a
world issue, not just a community one. The billboard was
displayed along a busy roadway sending a message to all
motorists who passed by.

Zachary R. decided that his school needed a recycling program.
He enlisted a few friends who helped circulate a petition
and collected 75 signatures. He took the petition and his
idea to the principal who was in support of the plan, but
wanted the kids to work out the details. Zachary is determined
to do just that. He is busy finding out how the recyclables
will be stored once collected and who will haul them away.
"It doesn't make sense to toss all those cans and bottles
in the trash when they can be re-used," reasons Zachary.
Once the program is implemented, it will no doubt have a
positive impact on the student body as well as the environment.
