Third
Annual Watershed-wide Cleanup a Success
On Saturday, April
12, 76 volunteers including members of the Aultman Watershed Association
for Restoring the Environment, the Indiana Junior High School Builder's
Club, and
PA
CleanWays of Indiana County removed 7.87 tons of trash, 45 tires and
1 refrigerator from the Aultman Run Watershed.
For many years,
the roads within the watershed have suffered from littering and illegal
dumping. Now, residents and concerned community members have joined
together to fight back. Cleanup efforts began two years ago when 68
volunteers removed more than 600 bags of trash from the watershed. Last
year, 87 volunteers removed 8.8 tons of trash from the area.
The
3rd Annual Aultman Run Watershed Wide Cleanup was truly a community
effort. Armstrong, Blacklick, Center, Conemaugh and Young Townships,
the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and the United States Army Corps of
Engineers all provided trucks to remove the trash. Waste Management
donated landfill space to the effort, and PennDOT donated gloves, garbage
bags, and safety vests.
