Spring
2004 Cleanup Season A Success!
Once
again, the volunteers of PA CleanWays of Indiana County are making our
community a cleaner place to live. Following are the highlights of the
spring cleanup season:
On April 17,
40 volunteers devoted 120 hours to removing 5.79 tons of trash from
the Aultman Run Watershed during the 4th Annual Watershed Wide Cleanup.
(See above photo).
On May 1,
19 volunteers donated a total of 66.5 hours to cleaning up Gallitzen
State Forest. This series of illegal dumpsites located along Route
403 in East Wheatfield Township contained tires, household items,
construction debris, and various appliances. Through the PA Department
of Conservation and Natural Resources' Forest Lands Beautification
Program, a contractor was also hired to work on the site. Together
a total of 8.09 tons of trash was removed from the site and properly
disposed. 8.28 tons of tires and 4.06 tons of scrap metal were recycled.
On April 22,
15 volunteers from the Marion Center Schools devoted 45 hours to removing
more than 100 bags of trash, the seat of a car, building material,
and refrigerator and computer parts from Purdan Hill Road in Washington
Township.
