PA CleanWays of Huntingdon County
PA CleanWays of
Huntingdon County, a chapter of PA CleanWays, was formed in
2001 with support from the Huntington County Conservation District.
The chapter focuses on cleanups of illegal dumps, special collection
events for disposal of hard to recycle items, and educating
the public on the detriments of illegal dumping and littering.
Since our inception through the end of 2009, Huntingdon County
has held 29 cleanups removing and properly disposing of 195.21
tons of trash as well as recycling over 2,300 tires! During
our past several special collection events, we have collected
and recycled over 3,300 tires!
The Huntingdon County
Chapter has an extensive network of volunteers, including the
Conservation Club from Juniata College. Since 2005, our volunteers
have donated a total of almost 1,500 hours to help clean our
beautiful county! One of our most recent cleanups was on Hogan
Road in Shirley Township where volunteers removed and properly
disposed 6 tons of trash and recycled 120 tires! Another site,
Fulcomer Lane, was cleaned with the assistance of a contractor
and removed a total of 60.92 tons.
PA CleanWays of Huntingdon County
also participates in an annual friendly rivalry with neighboring
PA CleanWays of Mifflin County. The Golden Rim Award is given
to the chapter who collects the most tires at a specific collection
event, helping to remove unsightly tires and mosquito breeding
grounds from the landscape. We retained the Gold Rim Award this
fall by collecting 441 tires!

The Huntingdon County Illegal Dump
Survey is being completed by PA CleanWays to identify illegal
dumpsites within the county and will be released in the spring
of 2010.
Please check our Calendar
of Events for upcoming cleanups. If you would like
to become a volunteer for the chapter, please contact Celina Seftas,
Chapter Coordinator, at 814-627-1627 or e-mail.
If you would like to make a donation
to PA CleanWays of Huntingdon County to help support chapter activities,
please consider giving to the PA
CleanWays Clean and Green Fund.
