We are actively seeking stewards for the greenways listed below. By adopting a greenway, you will be helping to preserve Pennsylvania's open spaces. If you are interested in our adoption program, click here to learn more.

The sites that have been adopted are indicated in bold. PA CleanWays extends a special thank you to these groups and individuals for helping to keep Pennsylvania's green spaces clean and beautiful.

Allegheny County

Hazelwood Greenway - This site is located in the Monongahela River Watershed and is identified as the south section of Hazelwood Greenway near King Lake Street.

Grand View Scenic Byway, Williams Street - This site is located in the City of Pittsburgh, within a collective group of green spaces referred to as the Grand View Scenic Byways, that ring Mt. Washington and is within the Monongahela River watershed. The site is on a wooded hillside directly above the Liberty Tunnels and as a result is highly visible to thousands of people daily. Accessible from an infrequently used city road, Williams Street, the site is on land owned by the Pittsburgh School District, Allegheny County, and the City of Pittsburgh.

Blair County

Lower Trail (also a portion in Huntingdon County) - This 16 mile stretch of trail is part of the Pittsburgh to Harrisburg Mainline Greenway Project and is adjacent to the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River.

Little Juniata River, Spruce Creek - This stretch of the Little Juniata is heavily used for recreation, fishing, and canoeing and is home to an abundance of local wildlife. It meets the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata and flows to the Susquehanna River. The site is downstream from the city of Altoona and other municipalities, such as Antis Township, Tyrone Borough, Tyrone Township, and more.

Little Juniata River, Watts Road - In 2002, PA CleanWays of Blair County, Trout Unlimited, and Antis Township adopted a section of the Little Juniata and Watts Road. However, additional adopters are needed for other sections of the Little Juniata River.

Cambria County

Wilmore Dam - Summerhill Township

Hinkston Run Dam - East Taylor Township

Clarion County

Clarion River (also portions in Elk, Forest, and Jefferson Counties) - 51.6 miles of rural area, used for canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, hiking, and camping from The City of Ridgway (Elk County) to the month of the Piney Dam (Clarion County).

Cumberland County
Creekside Drive - In a true cooperative effort, this greenway was adopted in October 2007 by Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 89, Zion Lutheran Church, and Cumberland County Juvenile Probation.

Dauphin County

Capital Area Greenbelt - The two sections that were cleaned by PA CleanWays and local groups include the tributary to Spring Creek at 29th Street, abutting the Capital Area Greenbelt, and South Cameron Street (at Ames True Temper) west to Sycamore Street.

Greene County

Davistown Road in Dunkard Creek Watershed - The cleanup took place along the riparian buffer zone between Dunkard Creek and Route 2021 on private property owned by Bobtown Rod and Gun Club. We are seeking adopters for the road that follows that route.

Brown's Creek Road in South Fork Watershed - This site is along Route 21 South in Washington Township and follows the banks of Brown's Creek.

Huntingdon County

Warrior Ridge Dam - This property is located along the Juniata River between Petersburg Borough and Huntingdon Borough in the Juniata River Watershed.

Jefferson County

Mahoning Shadow Rail-Trail - In an overwhelming show of commitment and conservation, 10 families and 2 organized groups have adopted 8 sections of trail that run through Young, Bell, and Perry Townships, and the Borough of Punxsutawney. This 12-mile stretch of trail is located in the Upper Mahoning Watershed and runs parallel to Mahoning Creek.

Lackawanna County

Carbondale Heritage Gateway and Racket Brook Gateway - This site is a ½ mile of wooded hillside that lies below a residential section of Carbondale and follows the Lackawanna River, which is considered a trophy trout stream.

Lawrence County

North Country Trail - This is a 1.3 mile section of the North Country Trail in Wayne Township.

Kennedy Mill - This white water stream is located along Slippery Rock Creek in Slippery Rock Township on Frew Mill Road/State Route 1012/Township Road 447 at the Kennedy Mill Bridge. It is known as a local recreation spot for kayakers who traverse its Class II-III rapids, as well as fishermen and swimmers.

Lycoming County

Riverfront Park - Riverfront Park on the West Branch Susquehanna River in Loyalsock Township.

Monroe County

Merwine-Hilltop Road Greenway in Chestnuthill Township - Chestnuthill Township has acquired 244 acres of land on both sides of Merwine-Hilltop Road (Romascavage property) to develop an active and passive recreation area. An extensive system of trails already exists through the site. The land also offers opportunities for environmental education.

This greenway has been named West End Regional Park. In March of 2008, the West End Park and Open Space Commission committed to keeping the area trash free and formally adopted it through PA CleanWays.

Westmoreland County

Coal and Coke Trail at Iron Bridge - This is a Rails-to-Trails site connecting Mt. Pleasant Borough and Scottdale Borough.
