Hopkins Run Road Cleanup - April 2003
Forty
Waynesburg College students and PA CleanWays of Greene County teamed
together to clean up three dumpsites along Hopkins Run Road in Morris
Township, and two-and-a-half miles of littered roadways. The students,
led by Professor Tom Smith, conquered this enormous undertaking on Saturday,
April 5, 2003. They removed 16 tons of trash, 8 tons of white goods,
and 125 tires.
Kurt Salac of Waste
Management donated two roll-offs to remove the trash, Tammy's Salvage
of Spraggs removed the white goods at no cost to PA CleanWays, and Morris
Township supervisors came with their backhoes to make the awesome tasks
a little easier for the volunteers.
A large debt of
gratitude to Professor Smith, Waynesburg College students, Warden Gillispie
and the inmates of the county jail, and all of our community volunteers
who donated their time and energies for understanding the need to preserve
our earth. Projects of this size could not be completed without all
of the above and their support of PA CleanWays of Greene County and
their belief in a cleaner and safer environment.
