  • Hire only licensed haulers, especially if you need a special pickup after remodeling or cleaning your garage. Many people assume that anyone paid to collect trash is legitimate.
  • Encourage your community to sponsor a Community Cleanup Day or to become a PA CleanWays Community.
  • Participate in the annual Great PA Cleanup each spring.
  • Join PA CleanWays or organize a local chapter if one isn't in your community.
  • Adopt a local road or area through PA CleanWays (if a chapter exists), or a state road through PennDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program.
  • Call 1-877-7PA-FOREST (1-877-772-3673) to learn more about ways you can participate in DCNR's Forest Lands Beautification Program.
  • You can also call the toll-free Litterbug Hotline at 1-888-LITTERBUG to report mobile littering. You’ll need to provide the above listed information. When you call the Litterbug Hotline, you will be reminding Litterbugs that someone is watching -- and even more important than that, someone cares enough to do something about it. The reported Litterbug will receive a letter explaining the harm in littering, a handy litterbag and a reminder that littering is a crime that carries a $300 fine if caught. For more information about the Litterbug Hotline, click here.
  • Find out if other beautification or adoption programs exist in your area. Call your County Conservation District or Courthouse.
