Elk County Youth Wins Award In 2002 Litter Placemat Contest
In Spring 2002,
over 3,000 students statewide in grades 4-6 participated in an "Open
Your Eyes to Litter" placemat contest sponsored by PA CleanWays,
Inc., the PA Department of Environmental Protection, Allegheny Energy,
and Waste Management.
Locally,
students throughout Elk County submitted posters to the contest. Danielle
G. of Elk County was the fourth grade winner (placemat on right) and
she received a savings bond and trophy. Congratulations goes out to
Danielle as well as all the other students who took the time to construct
a poster.
Danielle's artwork
will be featured in the next printing of placemats; we'll be sure to
inform local restaurants when they become available. Last year, we were
fortunate in that several establishments throughout Elk County agreed
to use the placemats. They were as follows:
- The Kopper Kettle
- St. Marys Country
Club
- Main Street Tavern
- St. Marys Corner
Restaurant
- JC's Restaurant
- Elk Casino
- Green Light
PA CleanWays of
Elk County congratulates and thanks Danielle and the students of Elk
County for participating in the placemat contest! We also extend our
gracious thanks to the restaurants who featured the placemats in their
establishments.
