Plymouth
Township, Luzerne County
Plymouth
Township in Luzerne County has been awarded the title of
the "First PA CleanWays Community" in Pennsylvania.
Plymouth Township has been instrumental in the fight against
litter and has committed themselves to take an active role
in keeping their environment clean.
Plymouth Township
has a history of being an environmentally friendly community.
Its board of supervisors and planning commission have been
active in organizing roadside and streamside cleanups, abandoned
mine land cleanups, environmental education and workshops,
and other activities that allow community members in the
township to take part in making their municipality a cleaner
place to live.
State Representative
John Yudichak (D-Luzerne) commended the township for its
newly acquired "PA CleanWays Community" status.
"The citizens of Plymouth Township have taken the initiative
to make a lasting and recognizable difference in their community,"
Yudichak said. "Both residents and visitors will be
able to enjoy an environmentally sound and aesthetically
pleasing landscape as a result of these
efforts."
The Department
of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Department of
Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) have recognized
the township for its accomplishments. A sign unveiling for
the "PA CleanWays Community" designation was held
in April 2004.
We would like
to welcome Plymouth Township into the PA CleanWays Communities
Program!
