PA CleanWays Communities is a way to empower communities to eliminate
illegal dumping and littering in Pennsylvania.

The program offers a way for caring communities to get started on annual, systematic management of littering and dumping. By joining this program, communities are demonstrating that they recognize the value of a clean environment and are making that value a high priority for their area.

In order to become a PA CleanWays Community, a community must:

  • Be in compliance with PA Act 101 regulations (if applicable)
  • Have support from the local municipality
  • Conduct an annual community-wide cleanup
  • Display PA CleanWays Community signage

Once a community has met the above criteria, it then needs to submit a PA CleanWays Adoption Registration form. (Visit our Adoption Program forms page to obtain this form and other necessary information.) After the first community cleanup, PA CleanWays will provide a road sign for display at an entrance to the community.

By becoming a PA CleanWays Community, residents will know that their municipal
leaders are concerned about the environmental health of the community and
will work together with residents to make a difference.
