| On
January 11, 2008, an area of Tioga State Forest
got the cleanup it deserved. Rattler Mine
Road was a beautiful steep slope with a few
small ponds until large trash and debris filled
the area. With the help of PA CleanWays and
Tioga State Forest personnel, a contractor
was able to come in and remove large appliances,
construction debris, even an old rusted car,
along with the rest of the trash and tires.
By the end of the cleanup, 6.37 tons of trash
and 134 tires were removed from the site.
Additionally, 4.49 tons of scrap metal was
removed and recycled. Rattler Mine Road is
back to the beautiful sight it once was and
will remain that way with the help of gates
to keep out illegal dumpers.
This cleanup
was funded through the Pennsylvania Department
of Conservation and Natural Resources who
works in partnership with PA CleanWays to
identify dumpsites and to form community
volunteer teams to help remove the waste
under The Forest Lands Beautification Program
