| On May 6th
and 13th of 2006, a cleanup was done on and
around the Clarion River. This river, at one
time considered the most polluted river in
Pennsylvania, was filled with litter from
fishermen leaving lines, bobbers, and bait
packages as well as many who drove past throwing
trash from their vehicles. Along with the
trash left by people, debris from local area
communities that flooded was also found. Over
300 volunteers from Cooksburg, Ridgeway, Clarington,
Brookville, Clarion, and DuBois donated 1,510
hours to help with the cleanup. The organized
cleanup included not only the waterways and
river banks of the Clarion River, but also
the roadways along the Clarion River from
Ridgway to Millcreek. Volunteers collected
12 tons of trash, including 35 tires and 4
tons of scrap!
Funding for
this project was provided through the Pennsylvania
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources,
Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, Community
Conservation Partnerships Program.
