PA CleanWays of Cambria County

PA CleanWays of Cambria County, a chapter of PA CleanWays, was formed in 1994 with support from the Cambria County Conservation District. The chapter focuses on cleanups of illegal dumps, special collection events for disposal of hard to recycle items, and educating the public on the detriments of illegal dumping and littering.

Since our inception through the end of 2009, PA CleanWays of Cambria County has held 21 cleanups removing and properly disposing of 215.96 tons of trash as well as recycling over 4,200 tires! Over the past five years, we have held 37 hard-to-dispose events collecting and recycling over 6,000 tires, 1,841 appliances with Freon, and 857 appliances without Freon! Our chapter also administers the Fugitive Tire Program, which is made available to organized youth groups (scouts, church groups, etc.) who preregister with PA CleanWays of Cambria County. The youth groups collect and receive a "bounty" for a predetermined number of tires that they capture from the "wild" (wood areas, wetlands, fields, ravines, and streams).

The Cambria County Chapter has an extensive network of volunteers and works with local conservation groups. Since 2005, our volunteers have donated over 600 hours to make Cambria County a cleaner and more beautiful place to live and visit!

The Cambria County Illegal Dump Survey is being completed by PA CleanWays to identify illegal dumpsites within the county and will be released in the spring of 2010. Since 2005, PA CleanWays has surveyed 37 counties in the Commonwealth, identifying over 4,100 dumpsites with an estimated 14,500 tons of trash.

Please check our Calendar of Events for upcoming cleanups. If you would like to become a volunteer or donor for the chapter, please contact Mark Stockley, Chapter Coordinator, at 814-472-2120, or by e-mail.
