Tree Bank Program 2002
The
chapter participated once again in the state organization's annual
tree bank program. Designed to help combat illegal dumping through
beautification, this program has grown significantly over the years,
with over 18,000 trees distributed in the program's ten years. The
chapter received 399 trees for planting on public ground. Five groups
received seedlings from this year's allotment of 399 trees. The groups
and the areas where the trees were planted are:
-
Adams/Croyle
Recreation Committee,1889 Park in Sidman
-
Conemaugh
Valley High School Science classes, Conemaugh
Valley School properties
-
Crichton
McCormick Park Committee, Crichton McCormick
Park in Portage
-
East
Conemaugh Borough Beautification Committee, East Conemaugh Borough
-
Portage
Area High School Environmental Club/Classes,
Portage Area High School property
The tree bank
program is just one of the programs designed to prevent future illegal
dumping and littering. The chapter is always looking for good ideas
and suggestions for eliminating these problems in the county. If anyone
would like to volunteer their idea, please do so. Without deterrents
to keep people from illegally disposing of their trash and unwanted
items, we will be unable to sustain a clean, beautiful Cambria County.
