New
Cambria County Enforcement/Education Officer
The Cambria County
Solid Waste Authority has hired an Enforcement/Education officer to
address the issue of compliance of the local solid waste ordinances.
PA CleanWays of Cambria County would like to extend our welcome to Machel
Drahnak. As she begins her duties as the Enforcement/Education officer,
we will work with Machel and the Solid Waste Authority to begin the
process of identifying, quantifying and assessing the illegal dumps
in the county.
The cooperation
of the municipalities is key to the success of the program and we will
be contacting municipal officials to participate in a county-wide survey
to locate and map the illegal dumps in Cambria County. PA CleanWays
will provide the illegal dump survey forms and training volunteer surveyors
about these forms. We will also provide the Solid Waste Authority with
staff time to verify information received from the forms and follow
up with site visits if necessary.
This project will
allow the chapter to play an integral role in beginning to combat the
problem of illegal dumping utilizing enforcement as a means to deter
people from improperly disposing of trash and unwanted items. PA CleanWays
will also continue to educate the public and promote the adoption program
as an alternate means to stop this activity.
