Cambria
Chapter Participates in May 4 Cleanup in Laurel Ridge State Park
PA
CleanWays of Cambria County members were among 41 volunteers who removed
trash from several locations along State Route 56 in the Laurel Ridge
State Park on May 4, 2002.
The
cleanup was also organized by the Westmoreland County Chapter. Students
from Bob Reintgen's class at Derry Area High School and the "Outside
In School for Youth" program with two advisers and eight youth joined
the cleanup effort.
Together,
the volunteers contributed 193 volunteer hours to pull 3.26 tons of
trash from the hillside. It was taken to Southern Alleghenies Landfill,
Davidsville, Somerset County, where tipping fees were waived by Waste
Management. Nearly three tons of tires were handled by S&S Recycling.
Zeke's Pizza provided a discount on pizza for lunch.
Another
site is slated to be cleaned in Fall 2002 along with additional sites
along Decker Avenue in the West End section of Johnstown.
