Fall
2002 Cambria Chapter Cleanups
Two
groups of volunteers dedicated their time and energy to cleaning up
property owned by the Cambria Somerset Authority (CSA) in Cambria County
this fall.
The South Ebensburg
United Church of Christ group cleaned an illegal dump at Wilmore Dam
in Munster Township on October 27th. This group of 22 volunteers donated
75 hours to the project, removing 20 tires and 1.75 tons of trash. The
members of this church group have been active in PA CleanWays and also
participate in the Fugitive Tire Program for the chapter.
A second group of
volunteers, 27 total, consisting of members of both Conemaugh Valley
High School SADD, (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and the National
Honor Society donated 94 volunteer hours on October 23, 2002 at Hinkston
Run Dam in East Taylor Township. These students and advisors helped
CSA and PA CleanWays remove 3.55 tons of trash and debris as well as
225 tires from the area.
These projects were
completed through the cooperative efforts of PA CleanWays, the Cambria
Somerset Authority, East Taylor Township, and the Department of Conservation
and Natural Resources (DCNR) Community Conservation and Public Pride
grant program. As the areas are developed for future use and recreation,
the previously existing problem of illegal dumps will no longer be an
issue. A special thanks to our groups of volunteers. Without you these
cleanups couldn't possibly occur!
