  • May; Special Collection or Recycling Event in Cambria County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Cambria County. We are sponsoring local Boy Scout Troops to collect fugitive tires around the county.   • May 1; 8:30 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Armstrong County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This is a volunteer trash and tire cleanup on Hemlock Road in South Bend Township. Meet at 8:15 at St. Jacob's United Church of Christ on Crooked Creek Road in South Bend. From the intersection of SR 422 and SR 56/156, take SR 56/156 west 5 miles to South Bend Service Station and turn right onto Crooked Creek Road. Church is on the right.   • May 1; 8:00 AM to 1 PM; Special Collection or Recycling Event in Cambria County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Cambria County. We are holding our annual appliance and tire collection in Cambria Township. The following fees will apply; appliances with Freon $12, appliances without Freon $6, tires off rim $2, and tires on rim $3.     May 1; 9 AM to 4 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Centre County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This event will take place at the Old Mountain Road dumpsite in Coburn, Haines Township. Volunteers should meet at 9 AM at the site. From State College: Take Rt 322 East for 3.5 miles, then take the exit for Rt 45 East. Continue on Rt 45 E for 18 miles to Millheim. Turn right onto Penn St/Coburn Road for 1 mile, then left onto Pine Creek Road, then right onto Sawmill Drive, then an immediate left on Old Mountain Road. The site is at the top of the hill on the left. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Registration deadline is April 30. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes or boots and long pants.   • May 1; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Clarion County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This is a volunteer cleanup that will be held at the Black Fox Road dumpsite in Perry Township. Meet at 8:45 AM at dumpsite. From Clarion, take 68S, turn onto 58 in Sligo, from Callensburg take 368, turn left onto Doc Walker Road in West Freedom, take left onto Black Fox Rd, go 0.8mi., dump is on right. Signs will be posted. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes or boots and long pants. Lunch and drinks will be provided.   • May 1; 8 AM to 3 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Cambria County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Cambria County. This cleanup will be held in West Carroll Township where litter will be cleaned up along the side of St. Joseph Road. For more information, please call Mark Stockley at 814-472-2120 or e-mail.

  • May 8; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Washington County, sponsored by PA CleanWays and PA CleanWays of Washington County. This is the second volunteer cleanup along Devil's Den Road in Hanover Township. Volunteers should meet at 8:45 AM at the Paris Sportsmen's Club. From Washington: Follow PA-18 North. Turn left onto Steubenville Pike (Old US-22) and follow for 4.9 miles. Turn right onto Devil's Den Road for 0.8 miles. Club is on the right. Volunteers will carpool to dumpsite.   • May 8 & 15; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Forest County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This is a volunteer cleanup that will be held at the Ross Run Road dumpsite in Kingsley Township. This cleanup is the Eagle Scout project of Kyle Boocks. Ross Run Road is the largest illegal dump in Forest County and is located on public land stewarded by the Allegheny National Forest and the Army Corps. Volunteers should meet at 8:45 AM at the site. From Rte 36, take Dutch Hill Road, take right on Ross Run Road, top of site begins on left just past the rock painted like a monkey, volunteers should continue on from here to park at the bottom of the hill near the small bridge. Signs will be posted. This site requires a short hike through the woods to reach the bottom of the site where most of the trash is located so volunteers must be able to walk a fair distance and climb over obstacles. Registration deadline is May 6 and 13 respectively. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes or boots and long pants. Lunch and drinks will be provided.   • May 14; 9 AM to 1PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Perry County, sponsored by PA CleanWays and PA CleanWays of Perry County. This cleanup will be held along Little Boston Road in Penn Township. Volunteers should meet at 8:45 AM at the dumpsite. [From US-11/US-15: Take Exit PA-274 W towards Duncannon; (From the South, turn Left onto Main Street/ From the North, merge onto East Main Street]); Follow Main Street; After crossing over the creek, turn Left onto Little Boston Road; End at dumpsite.] Volunteers will help remove litter and illegal dumping.   • May 15; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Allegheny County, sponsored by Allegheny CleanWays. Join us as we clean up hundreds of wooden pallets that have been dumped along Planet Street in the West End. Help us rid this community green space of this eyesore. As always, we'll provide refreshments and all equipment you'll need. Please wear sturdy, close-toed shoes or boots, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt.   • May 15; 8 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Cambria County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Cambria County. This is a roadside cleanup along Cemetery Road in Adams Township. For more information, please call Mark Stockley at 814-472-2120 or e-mail.

  • May 16; Noon to 3 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Allegheny County, sponsored by Allegheny CleanWays. We'll be working with the Mt. Washington CDC to clean up tires and other debris from the Duquesne Heights Greenway at the end of Wyola and Sweetbriar Streets. Teamwork will be required as the Greenway is quite steep and the footing is rather difficult. As always, we'll provide all the supplies and refreshments you'll need. We just ask that you come dressed appropriately - close-toed shoes, long pants, and long shirts - and are ready to work. For more information, please contact Myrna Newman at 412-381-1301 or e-mail.

  • May 21; 5 PM to 8 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Allegheny County, sponsored by Allegheny CleanWays. Please join us for a cleanup of the Monongahela Riverfront along the South Side Trail and Mon Wharf. Participants will be removing debris and litter from the riverfront and will be planting native trees, shrubs and sunflowers along the new trail segment. Please dress appropriately for the task and be prepared for inclement weather. We recommend close-toed shoes or boots, long pants and long-sleeved shirt. As always, we'll provide equipment, refreshments, instructions, and entertainment after the cleanup. Directions from downtown; take the Smithfield Street Bridge to Carson Street. Make a left onto E. Carson St. Take the 2nd left onto 1st Street (just past the Exxon Station). Turn right at McKean St. Take the 3rd left onto 4th Street. Follow to the riverfront (across railroad tracks), and make a right into the trailhead parking lot. We'll gather on the left of the trail, midway down the lot. Look for the Tireless Project banner.   • May 22; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Erie County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This is the second volunteer cleanup at the Lake Erie Region Conservancy's Rand Farm in McKean Township. Volunteers should meet at 8:45 AM at the Rand Farm, 6566 West Road, McKean, PA. (Take I-79 Exit 174/ Follow West Road towards Sterrettania for approx. 1.3 miles.) Volunteers will help remove litter and illegal dumping.   • May 22; 1 PM to 5 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Warren County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This cleanup is taking place at Daugherty Run Road in Conewango Township. Volunteers are needed to load trash into dumpsters for disposal and/or recycling. Volunteers should meet at the dumpsite at 8:45 AM. From Rte. 62, take Daugherty Run Road (near mall) dump on left. Signs will be posted. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Registration deadline is May 21st. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes or boots and long pants.     May 23; 9 AM to 1PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Warren County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This cleanup is taking place at Panther Gap Road in Freehold Township. Volunteers are needed to load tires into dumpsters for recycling. Volunteers should meet at the dumpsite at 8:45 AM. From Rte. 6, take Deadman's Road (Across from road to junkyard) to Panther Gap, take left, dump site is up the road on the left. Registration deadline is May 21.
