  • October 6; 8:30 AM to 12 PM; Special Collection/Recycling Event in Westmoreland County, sponsored by Westmoreland Cleanways. This is a tire collection, battery and appliance recycling event and is being held at Norwin Hills Shopping Center parking lot. For further information, contact Ellen at 724-836-4129 or e-mail.

  • October 6; 9 AM to 12 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Mifflin County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Mifflin County. This cleanup is being held at Vermont Avenue and Nolan Drive. Volunteers will meet at the K-Mart parking lot at 8:45 AM. Vermont Avenue is directly across from the parking lot. For additional information, contact Pam Sechrist at 717-899-6701 or e-mail.

  • October 8; 10 AM to 3 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Philadelphia County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Royal Gardens in Morris Park - West Philadelphia. This cleanup is being held at the Fairmount Park Commission where we will be removing illegal dumping along the banks of Cobbs Creek/Darby Watershed near Papa's Ball Field.   • October 13; 9 AM to 12 PM; Educational Event in Westmoreland County, sponsored by Westmoreland Cleanways. A Compost Workshop will be held at the Center for Conservation Education in Greensburg and registration is necessary. To register, contact Ellen at 724-836-4129 or e-mail.

  • October 13; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This cleanup is being held in Buchanan State Forest along Three Mountain Road. We will meet at the Sideling Hill Picnic Area on Route 30. Volunteers will help remove litter and illegal dumping. For additional information, contact Susan Carmichael at 877-772-3673 or e-mail.

  • October 13; 9 AM to Noon; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in McKean County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of McKean County. This cleanup is being held in Norwich Township on West Valley Road. Volunteers will help in cleaning up an old dump site. For additional information, contact Heather McKean at 814-887-4003 or e-mail.

  • October 18; 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Allegheny County, sponsored by Allegheny CleanWays. This COALS cleanup is being held on Diaz Way in the Hill District of Pittsburgh. It is centered on the hillside along Diaz Way that has been an illegal dumpsite for years. Volunteers will continue the work started earlier this summer when more than seven tons of debris and tires were removed. For additional information, contact Myrna Newman at 412-381-1301 or e-mail.

  • October 20; 8:30 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Bedford County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Bedford County. This river sweep cleanup will take place along the Raystown Branch of Juniata River and adjacent hotspots in Beford Township. Volunteers should meet at Fort Bedford Park at 8:30 AM. This event is being sponsored by REI, Inc., and each volunteer will receive an REI water bottle. A light lunch and beverages will also be provided.   • October 20; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Lycoming County, sponsored by Clinton County CleanScapes. This cleanup will take place at Mill Road, Collomsville, Limestone Township. Volunteers will work alongside of members from the Nippensoe Watershed Association as they remove 75 to 125 tires from forested land adjacent to Mill Road.   • October 20; 9 AM to 12 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Mifflin County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Mifflin County. This cleanup is being held on Nolan Drive in Derry Township. Volunteers will meet at the K-Mart parking lot at 8:45 AM and will travel to the dump site from there. The rain date for this cleanup is October 27th.   • October 21; 1 PM to 5 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Cumberland County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Cumberland County. This cleanup is being held in Michaux State Forest. Two dumpsites have been identified to be cleaned on this day. The two dumpsites are on Pine Grove Road and Chestnut Ridge Road.   • October 26; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Northumberland County, sponsored by Northumberland County Conservation District and PA CleanWays. This COALS cleanup is being held on Pine Hill Road in Rockefeller Township with students from Shikellamy High School. For additional information, contact Judy Becker at 570-286-7114 ext 4 or

  • October 27; 9 AM to 1 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Tiogo County, sponsored by PA CleanWays. This cleanup is being held in Tioga State Forest. We will meet at the Tioga State Forest District Office on SR 287 which is approximately 1.5 miles south of Wellsboro. Volunteers will help remove litter and illegal dumping from Lungerville and Pinafore Run. For additional information, contact Susan Carmichael at 877-772-3673 ext 25 or e-mail.

  • October 27; 10 AM to 2PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Blair County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Blair County. This cleanup is being held in Logan Township and we are partnering with Altoona City Water Authority. Volunteers should meet at the Altoona City Water Authority Horseshoe Curve Water Treatment Plant parking lot at 10 AM. For additional information, contact Mike Union at 814-695-5712 or e-mail.

  • October 27; 9 AM to Noon; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Allegheny County, sponsored by Allegheny Cleanways. This COALS cleanup is being held on Stanton Avenue in Highland Park, Pittsburgh. This is a steep-slope clean up which we are enlisting the help of the Explorers Club of Pittsburgh Mountaineering School as part of their training. Other volunteers are needed to help shuttle trash from the top of the slope to a dumpster. For more information, contact Myrna Newman at 412-381-1301 or e-mail.

  • October 31; 8 AM to 4 PM; Illegal Dump/Litter Cleanup in Huntingdon County, sponsored by PA CleanWays of Huntingdon County, PA Game Commission, and PA Conservation Corp. This is Phase One of our Gravel Turn Cleanup which is for equipment only. Volunteers are not needed until Phase Two which will be held on November 17th. (Please see November's calendar.) We will be focusing on removing large items, scrap metal, and tires. Equipment will be donated by the PA Game Commission.
