PA CleanWays of Allegheny County Welcomes New Executive Director

During the past eight months, the PA CleanWays of Allegheny County, Inc. (PACWAC) Board of Directors has worked diligently to ensure the ongoing success of our organization. We are committed to playing a leadership role in the efforts to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County.

One of our goals over the past six months was to build our internal capacity by recruiting an Executive Director who has strong management experience and shares our passion and commitment to the organization's mission. We are happy to announce that we recently hired Mary Wilson as PACWAC's new Executive Director.

Mary, a native of Pittsburgh, began her career determined to be the next Jane Goodall...delving into the field of animal behavior with undergraduate and graduate studies. While her interest in the natural world has taken some interesting twists, it has consistently held that focus. Her interest in wildlife evolved into an appreciation of habitat conservation and environmental education which took her in the unexpected direction of working in the zoo world, specifically as the Curator of Education at the Montgomery Zoo (Alabama). During her tenure there she became active in local non-profits and grew to appreciate their remarkable capacity for achieving great things.

Mary's subsequent professional activities have included serving as Director of Development for the Alabama Conservancy, Environmental Educator at the Audubon Society of Western PA's Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, Outreach Coordinator for the Florida DEP at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Project Assistant in the development of the Regional Environmental Education Center at Boyce Mayview Park in Upper St. Clair, and most recently as a consultant for smaller non-profit organizations in Western PA.

Environmental work is an avocation as well as a vocation for Mary, with "free" time spent serving on the Environmental Advisory Council of Hampton Township, as well as board memberships with the North Area Environmental Council and Pine Creek Land Conservation Trust. Mary is very pleased to have an opportunity to apply her interest in the non-profit environmental sector to the Executive Director position with PA CleanWays of Allegheny County, Inc. and welcomes the opportunity to help them fulfill their mission in her home town.

Mary and the PACWAC Board of Directors look forward to working with local citizens, government, and businesses to address the problem of illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County.
