Perry Hilltop Awarded Grant
PA CleanWays of
Allegheny County and Perry Hilltop Citizen's Council were awarded a
grant from the Allegheny County Department of Health to devise and implement
a work model that addresses the illegal dumping and littering problem
in the Perry Hilltop neighborhood.
The plan includes
a detailed illegal dump assessment, a public awareness campaign, and
a cleanup and stewardship effort. Eleven illegal dumps have been identified
to contain an estimated 110 tons of debris that include: discarded appliances,
municipal waste, tires, used building materials, and landscaping debris.
PA CleanWays of
Allegheny County will hold a public meeting on January 7, 2004 to share
the assessment results and provide a forum for community discussion.
Perry Hilltop residents are encouraged to contact
the Allegheny Chapter office to find out more about the project.
