Cleanup in North Fayette Township
The Horticultural
Society of Western Pennsylvania and PA CleanWays of Allegheny County
joined forces to clean three illegal dumps located on the future site
of HSWPA Botanical Garden in North Fayette Township.
Volunteers from
the Horticultural Society, North Allegheny Key Club, and a local Girl
Scout Troop worked hard at the two-day event to remove 10 tons of illegally
dumped waste including two dumpsters of municipal waste, two refrigerators,
150 tires, and 400 inner tubes.
Much of the debris
was pulled from a stream that constitutes part of the Chartiers Creek
Watershed, a watershed that ultimately empties into the Ohio River at
McKees Rocks.
