Annual Tree Distribution
Trees
are an asset to every community. They increase property value, alleviate
noise and air pollution, keep your home cooler in summer, provide more
habitat for wildlife, and give you more of nature's beauty. Most important
to our efforts is the power that trees have to deter blight.
PA CleanWays has
found that when residents conduct beautification projects in their community,
like tree plantings, littering and illegal dumping are less likely to
occur. To this end, PA CleanWays has teamed up with the National Tree
Trust to provide seedlings for planting at former illegal dump sites
and adoption areas. Since the chapter's inception in 2000, PA CleanWays
of Allegheny County has teamed with residents to plant 1,640 trees in
Allegheny County. This year, over 300 volunteers planted 300 trees along
riverfront trails in the South Side and Millvale, and along streets
and vacant lots in the North Side.
More trees are available
and groups are encouraged to contact the
Allegheny Chapter office to learn more about the program.
