Art
for Earth's Sake
The
idea of drawing a parallel between the environment and art is an interpretation
of nature; man attempts to communicate or recreate what he/she finds
naturally in the universe. From Stravinski’s Rite of Spring to Picasso’s
Guernica, man has shed his many layers of creativity to bring nature
to the masses. On Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, PA CleanWays of Allegheny
County held the first annual Art for Earth’s Sake, an
evening of environmentally inspired art and performance.
The
aim of the evening was to showcase the relationship between art and
the environment while creating awareness of the PA CleanWays of Allegheny
County mission. The event took place at the Frick Environmental Center
in Squirrel Hill. Admission was $10. Attendees enjoyed a reception and
were able to purchase the artwork. Many of the artists donated their
work to be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Allegheny Chapter.
Danielle Crumrine, Chapter President and Event Chair, said, "The night
proved very successful, as guests celebrated creativity attempting to
preserve what artists have continuously sought to immortalize: the environment."
Special thanks to the artist Nat, Eric Christopher Sloss, and the folks
at the Frick Environmental Center for their help in making Art
for Earth’s Sake a successful and inspiring event.
